At Hope we recognise that everyone who is a follower of Jesus is involved in mission in their daily lives and we seek to encourage them in that. Jesus is recorded as saying the following in the Bible in Matthew 28 verse 19 “….go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” This is known as ‘The Great Commission’. To fulfil this commission we recognise that God sometimes calls people to go further afield to reach people with His good news.
We therefore encourage all people to see if God is calling them to go, for a short or a long time, beyond their local community in service for Him. We seek to enable this to happen with prayerful support and some financial support as appropriate.
In April 2013 a group of 16 young people and adults went to Mexico to build a home for a poor family as part of the RE:Build Mexico project run by Urban Saints. Also, in August 2013 a team of 7 people from Hope went to support a missionary couple and a church in Romania running a week long camp for teenagers.
Another side to mission at Hope is our belief that God wants us to follow His commands to love Him, love justice and love our neighbour and to be good stewards of His creation. We endeavour to do this by highlighting issues of social justice and care for creation through specific events, information given out in newsletters, emails and in Sunday services.
